This vase featuring begonia flowers and leaves was produced in 1900 when Gallé was at the height of his creative powers. It has simple cylindrical shape and is marked by exquisite restraint. It was made of four-layered glass: clear with ruby, violet and olive-green. The moderate employment of decoration, concise form and virtuoso technique make the vase one of the finest in the Hermitage's Gallé collection. This piece may have been displayed at the World Exposition held in Paris in 1900. |
