Around 1900 Gallé produced a number of vases closely related in the treatment of colour in which layers of glass that do not intersect produce the main decorative effect. The vase is embellished with symbols of the night: poppy heads on long stems against a background of a star-spangled sky and moths. Below, hidden between the poppy stems and the insects is a falling star casting its last rays of light. |
