As the 14th century drew to a close, the basinet with its pointed skull
gradually began to acquire a more spherical form. The sides and back
of the helmet were elongated, while around 1420 a sharp comb appeared
on the crown. The result was an entirely new shape of helmet, known
as the sallet or salade, that remained very popular with both knights
and foot-soldiers until the end of the century. |
