Queen Marie Antoinette commissioned this service from the factory, perhaps intending it for here apartments in the Tuileries palace. The Queen was presented with samples of elaborate friezes (frises riches) produced by painters and chose one combining roses, cornflowers and pansies with borders made from garlands of myrtle and pearl-like decoration. The service was ready by January 1784, but as early as June Louis XVI presented as a gift to King Gustavus III of Sweden. Without delay the factory set about producing an identical service for the Queen, which was completed in August 1784.
Now both services are scattered across the world, in museums and private collections.
