The majority of workers at the factory were involved in the production of the "Russian service". Surviving drawings and sketches show the careful thought that went into the decoration of a service that contained some 800 pieces. Some shapes of tableware were conceived for the first time during the creation of the Cameo Service. Together with the Russian Parnasus table ornament, a bust of Catherine II in the guise of the goddess Minerva and some small biscuit vases, the Cameo Service is a unique and perfect ensemble, one of the finest things ever produced in porcelain. |
