1915 Imperial Porcelain Factory, St Petersburg Porcelain, overglaze painting with toned gold, selective polishing and matting Height: 6.0 cm On one side on a white background the gilt monogram HII (N II) beneath the Russian imperial crown - the device of Emperor Nicholas II, embellished with garlands of leaves. Eggs like this bearing the Emperor’s monogram were mainly produced during the First World War as gifts for soldiers at the front and in hospital. Sometimes 10,000 were made at a time. |
