1900-17 Imperial Porcelain Factory, St Petersburg Porcelain, polychrome overglaze painting, gilding Height: 9.5 cm On a white background decorated with garlands if green leaves, in a wreath of forget-me-nots the monogram ÀÔ (AF) beneath the Russian imperial crown - the device of Empress Alexandra Fiodorovna. Above and below are garlands of forget-me-nots. The record book for Easter eggs made at the Imperial Porcelain Factory and Glassworks mentions large Easter eggs bearing the Empress’s monogram at a cost of 20 roubles and small ones of two types: 5 and 3 roubles each. They were supplied to the imperial family at Easter for use as gifts to visitors, to the St Petersburg College of the Order of St Catherine, to the Smolny Institute for the Daughters of the Nobility, to military hospitals and also for sale. In 1915, 23 large and 2,559 small Easter eggs were sold. |
