1890-1900s Imperial Porcelain Factory, St Petersburg Porcelain, polychrome overglaze painting A bouquet of narcissi is depicted on the background of the pale green coating. The second quarter of the 19th century when a number of outstanding specialists in floral painting worked at the Imperial Porcelain Factory. Among them were A.I. and I. Tyganin, K.N. and F.I. Krasovsky. A garden was laid out and a hot-house constructed at the factory for the “florists” to practice. In addition artists were regularly sent to the Botanical Garden to draw specimens. Paintings and drawings of flowers, as well as botanical atlases were also purchased for use as models for copying. |
