Easter Egg with Flowers and Birds

1880s

Imperial Porcelain Factory, St Petersburg

Porcelain, polychrome overglaze painting, enamel

Height: 12.0 cm

Depicted on the pink background are birds sitting on cherry branches.

The flowering branches and chirruping birds are typical symbols of the springtime awakening and revival of nature and were often used to decorate Easter eggs as a symbol of the Resurrection.
