The toilet set was ordered for Empress Anna Ioannovna's favourite, Duke Ernst Johann Biron. It consists of 24 articles and includes works by the well-known London silversmiths William Gould, Paul de Lamerie, Peter Archambo, Simon Pantin the Younger, Augustine Courtauld, George Greenhill Jones, and Edward Vincent. Although many masters took part in the work and it was created over several years, their work shows stylistic unity and brilliant execution.
