The plat-de-menage consists of a stand made chiefly of wood resting on four wheels; a main body in the form of a deep bowl with flat dessert dish; and four small platters which screw onto the legs. Four glass flasks for vinegar and other sauces are placed on the base, along with four silver cruets for pepper and sugar, and also four salt dishes in the form of shells. Thanks to the purity and expressiveness of its design and the high quality of chasing and engraving, this plat-de-menage can be considered a splendid example of English Rococo silver craft.
