Star Castle on the Island of St Mary's

Star Castle on St Mary's is depicted in the left-hand part of the composition, while St Martin's Island is in the distance on the right. The pictorial source for the views of the Scilly Isles was the engraving "Fort, Town and Harbour of St. Mary's in Scilly with the Northern Islands taken from Bosou Hill" published by the Rev. William Borlase, a keen local historian in one of his books about Cornwall past and present: "Observations on the present and ancient state of the Islands of Scilly" (1756).
