Four round and four oval "wicker" baskets were intended for fresh fruit and added a note of pastoral charm to the refined Neo-Classical ensemble of the dessert section of the service. Tow round baskets have survived, four oval ones and two oval stands. These hard to make items that were, however, in great demand in the age of nascent Sentimentalism were an object of legitimate pride for Wedgwood. The shape was reproduced (among the best 35 models) in the first Wedgwood catalogue of Queen's Ware articles that was published in 1774. |
