The art of Siam. 14th-19th centuries

Buddha Maravijaya (back view)

Bangkok

Not earlier than 1824

Bronze, black and red lacquer, gilding

Height: 15 cm

At the back of the pedestal are two loops, one above the other, to hold an "honorific umbrella" above the Buddha's head. This sort of innovation appeared in the reign of Rama III, which means that the creation of this piece can be dated to no earlier than the time of his accession.
