View obverse of coin

Coin of indeterminate value. Reverse: Ares

138-161 A.D.

Corcyra

Copper

Diameter - 29 mm; weight - 8.54 g

This coin from Corcyra carries what is probably the most typical depiction of Ares. Here the god of war is shown full length. As befitted a warrior he is wearing a short chiton and boots. Resting one foot on a rock, he holds a spear in his right hand and in his left the sword hanging from his belt.
