1861 Constantine Andreyevich Ukhtomsky To complete the series of watercolours devoted to the New Hermitage, in 1861 Konstantin Ukhtomsky created a title page for the collection. In the centre of the composition he placed a perspective view of the Neva embankment looking from the little bridge over the Winter Canal towards the Winter Palace. Evidently intending to allude to the foundation of the museum in the eighteenth century, the artist depicted the Large and Small Hermitages in the watercolour, while the human figures are dressed in the style of Catherine II's time. The decorative frame around the perimeter embraces six medallions containing allegorical representations of architecture, sculpture, painting and engraving inspired by the names of the collections in the imperial museum.
