1853 Luigi Premazzi This watercolour provides a documentary record of the first display of Greek and Roman coins from the collection of the Hermitage Münzkabinett. Since numismatic material is hard to view in museum conditions, Leo von Klenze devoted particular attention to the splendidly rich décor of the hall. This is the only hall in the building with two rows of windows, "loggias" and an upper gallery. The ceiling is supported by twelve- Serdobol granite columns. The walls are faced with yellow and grey artificial marble. The figures of caryatids on the upper level and the reliefs on the walls showing the profiles of famous medallists were created by Josef Hermann, The hall has an unusual parquet floor made in the form of a colourful mosaic in different varieties of wood. The refined colour scheme of grey, gold and white forms an impressive setting for the display of minuscule exhibits. The Twelve-Column Hall is decorated by coloured stone items from the Yekaterinburg Lapidary Works.
