18th- and 19th-Century Walking Sticks from the Hermitage Collection
Last quarter of the 18th century By Frederick Fabriņius Denmark Length 128 cm This stick of light-coloured cane has a gold handle decorated with diamonds and granulation. The lid at the top bears the monogram of Catherine II and beneath it is a watch made by the Parisian clockmaker Gregson. Mounted in the side of the handle are painted enamel medallions. One of them, depicting Minerva, opens and beneath it 21 miniatures devoted to events of the first Russo-Turkish War can be viewed using a rotating mechanism.
