18th- and 19th-Century Walking Sticks from the Hermitage Collection


Walking stick made of coconut wood

Late 18th century

Russia, St Petersburg

Length 130 cm

This stick, made of coconut wood, has a gold handle covered with grey-blue enamel set with bands of diamonds. A pattern of diamonds in the form of a plait is placed in the centre, while at the top there is a cabochon amethyst. Below the head is the ribbon of the Order of St George.
Belonged to Catherine II.
