This serving dish for desserts in the "Russo-Byzantine"
style was made at the Imperial Glassworks in the 1860s to a design by
Ippolito Monighetti. It has a traditional shape - a bowl with a carved
knob on the stem - reminiscent of an Early Russian chalice. The piece
has been made from two-layered glass, milk glass inside and red glass
outside and painted with gold on the bright red background. Its surface
is decorated with drops of coloured glass imitating precious stones: sapphires,
emeralds and turquoises.
