The deep colour of the vase enabled the artist to cover it with several belts of small, fragmentary ornament reminiscent of the techniques of Russian embroidery - cross-stitch, chain-stitch and satin-stitch. Here too we can find the Early Russian motif known as gorodok - a stylized view of a city wall with towers. |
