This memorial ring was produced in Germany in the second
half of the 18th century. A plait of hair is placed on the band of the
ring forming a background for a gold inscription: UN SEUL ME SUFFIT
- "one [heart] is enough for me". A large heart-shaped diamond
is set in the centre of the ring. It is believed that this ring belonged
to Fredericka, Duchess of Wurttemberg, who belonged to the Brandenburg-Schwedt
line and was the mother of Russian Empress Maria Fiodorovna, wife of Paul
I.
In accordance with Maria Fidorovnas's will, the ring was given to the Winter Palace and from 1861 has been in the Gallery of Jewellery. |
