This wonderful cup with rich ornamentation in the shape of an opened flower of aquilegia (Akeleipokal) on a two-level base was made by an unknown Nuremberg master in the 1590s. Cups of such a form were executed in Nuremberg as a test for the rank of master and were called chefs-d'oeuvre. The cup's chasing is especially skillful, its bowl is richly decorated with ornamentation, cherubs and scenes from ancient myths showing Apollo and Daphne, Meleager and Atalanta, Venus and Adonis, Pyramus and Thisbe, Narcissus and the Beheading of the Thousand-eyed Argus.
