The mahogany bureau decorated with gilded bronze was created
by David Roentgen in the "architectural style". Typical features
of the style are an emphatic monumentality, noble proportions of line
and the incorporation of architectural elements in the constrcution and
decoration of furniture. The bureau is crowned by a figure of Apollo.
The upper part of the piece contains a concealed surface that can be used
for writing standing up. The small upper cupboard is flanked by open surfaces
surrounded by a bronze balustrade with vases. The central section is covered
by a lid and the ribs of the walls either side of it are decorated with
bronze elements in the form of a cascade of ducats with sphinxes below.
Eight Doric columns support the desk with an entablature above them carrying
bronze decor in the form of a frieze.
