The Tula weapon-smiths displayed their talent not only in the production of domestic items and decorations. In 1815 the mechanical workshop produced a unique set of drawing instruments to the drawings of Pavel Zakhava, an inventor and designer at the Tula Arms Factory. It comprises 39 items contained in a mahogany case. The range of instruments included in this exceptional set is tremendously broad. The placement of each of the instruments has been carefully planned. The first panel contains the instruments most often used for producing technical drawings, the second special devices for use in the workshop. The lid holds various kinds of ruler, the base triangles. Several sets of this type were probably produced, but only one of them has come down to us in its complete state.
