Inscription on the instruments

Four of the items are engraved "Tula. P. Zakhava". Pavel Dmitryevich Zakhava (1779-1839) is among the most interesting figures in Russian culture at the beginning of the 19th century. His name is very tightly bound up with the history of the Tula Arms Factory. On account of his technical knowledge, Zakhava was recruited to work on improving the accuracy of weapons. Contemporaries were already pointing out that Zakhava's productive activities were a major factor in enabling the factory to provide the Russian army with an uninterrupted supply of high-quality weapons in the years 1812-14.
