The technique of the painted decoration

The decoration in the 'famille verte' porcelain was painted over the glaze. The characteristic feature of this group is the predominant intensive green colour. The contrast of the skillfully chosen shades of red, blue, yellow, purple and black paint and gilding in combination with green stresses the brightness of the colour, which gave the name to the whole group of objects.
