The technique of carving

The bamboo carving was considered not mere craft, but art. The technique is alike carving in wood. Combining different techniques and finishing of the details - soft and voluminous relief carving and shining polished surfaces with the sharp and thin engraved lines - the skillful carver was able to express the mood of the characters and tension of the situation. This object according to its stylistic features can be attributed to the hand of the famous master Wu Zhifan who was active during the Kangxi Emperor reign(1662-1722).
