The design is carved around the brush holder, and reminds us about the Chinese horizontal scroll painting, we can look at one scene after another. The prime minister and wise military leader Se An is carved in the central scene. He is playing Chinese chess quietly with his friend calligrapher Wang Xizhi. His favorite women are chatting near. The servants are brewing tea. The scene is depicted at the riverside under the pine tree. At the other side of the brush holder the galloping rider brings the news about the victory in the battle. The enemy is defeated thanks to the wise leadership of Se An. |
