Bowl carved from the light greenish-gray jade was made for the Imperial palace during the reign of the Qianlong (1736-1795) and could have been used for the Imperial ceremonies in the palace. From ancient time jade in China used to be a sacred stone, and for the bowl the precious jade from Khotan was chosen. The surface of the bowl is covered with the relief decoration of five dragons in clouds and waves.
