Symbols

The carving on the box has a special meaning and is a New Years' wish of happiness, luck and long life. The lunar New Year starts in China in early spring. The dragons were the symbols of spring and rain thus bringing the good crops in the future. Taoist symbols: Shouxing, deer, pine - were the wishes of the longevity. The jewels were the symbols of richness. The literal stories of the lucky officials were added to the wishes of good career and prosperity.
