This drinking vessel in the form of an eagle owl's head was created by an unknown jeweller working for the English Shop firm in 1870. He managed to produce a work that is more like a sculptural table ornament than a drinking vessel. The exceptionally life-like bird of prey with wide-open eyes and sharp beak seems to be attentively observing its surroundings and listening with great interest to what is going on. Owls of all kinds were considered a symbol of wisdom by many peoples.
