This silver wine jug was created in the late 19th century by Julius Rappoport, one of the leading craftsmen working for the Fabergé firm. He was entrusted with meeting the firm's most important commissions for silver items. His workshop produced many items that are now the pride of the world's best museum collections. The craftsman has succeeded in producing an exceptionally true-to-life and vivid sculptural depiction of the creature, splendidly rendering through chasing the fur on the beaver's back and belly, the broad leathery tail and lively, curious eyes.
