This trinket in the form of a hare, made at the workshop of the St Petersburg jeweller Friedrich Koechli in the early 20th century, was a traditional Easter gift in Russia. The hare symbolized spring, fertility and wealth. The figurine is made of translucent grey agate. The hare holds a golden egg covered with white enamel. Such pendants were bought annually in the Easter days and after some years they formed an entire necklace. |
