Repairs to the roofs of the museum complex. The Small Hermitage

In 2004 A.S. Ogiyenko, the deputy chief mechanic of the State Hermitage, drew up a long-term plan of repairs to the roofs of the museum complex for 2006-12. In 2006 the Elbrus company repaired the roofs of the Small Hermitage above the Pavilion Hall and the Romanov Gallery. The roof above the Romanov Gallery was renewed on the basis of a project to strengthen the system of rafters. The aims of the project included preserving the historical shape of the roof and height benchmarks and also the original structures of the rafter system, while reinforcing the main supporting elements. Metal rafter structures were specially developed for the new roof created using Dutch multi-layer technology and covered with roofing steel of the Plastisol brand. After the roof covering was in place, heating cable was laid in the gutters and a controllable system for heating the roof was installed. The use of this heating system will solve the problem of clearing snow from the roof in winter. To ensure good ventilation of the attic space, louvered lattices were installed on the dormers.

In accordance with the project new walkways, metal railings and connecting fire ladders were made. Vandal-proof spouts were installed at the lower ends of the downpipes. The use of new technologies and materials in the course of repairs solves many problems relating to the roofs, on the reliability of which the longevity and preservation of the entire Hermitage complex of buildings depends.
