In accordance with the agreement between the Foundation of Investment Construction Projects of St Petersburg and Consortium including INTARSIA, LLC (the lead partner) and Production Association Vozrozhdenie, CJSC works of the second priority of the project for reconstruction of the West wing of the General Staff Building began.

Works are accomplished in the northern part of the West wing of the building. Halls and cabinets with valuable artistic decoration: picturesque ceilings, molding, walls, coated with artificial marble, glassed tile stoves and marble fireplaces, artistic parquet, architectural hardware, doors with carving and gilding come under reconstruction. The scope of reconstruction works of the second priority will increase almost in five times.

Moreover, in the rooms new engineering services are to be laid, walls and ceilings are to be enhanced and strengthened that in many ways make the work of restorers more complicated. The second priority of works include rearrangement and adjustment of the available historic rooms, reconstruction of cross yard buildings, covering of yards with translucent structures, deepening of yards and basements, reconstruction of facades of the whole West wing of the General Staff Building.

At the moment works on shoring of foundations, building stability improvement and piles arrangement are executed. Holes which historically formed on supporting structures of the historic pile field from larch-tree are filled with special solutions. In such way "transfer" of the building onto new concrete structures is being implemented. Works of second priority completion is planned in 2012.
