The design
to restore and reconstruct the Eastern Wing of the General Staff
building won the prize for best developers' project at the FIABCI
Prix d'Excellence competition According to the competition's jury, the restoration of the Eastern Wing of the State Hermitage Museum's General Staff building is an interesting Russian project, worthy of the attention and learning from experience protecting architectural heritage and the development of museums. The first work on the project began in August 2008. The second stage of the project is now being carried out. In four years the restorers and builders have succeeded in turning the building into a contemporary museum and managed to preserve its historical interiors. Gradually the State Hermitage Museum has managed to open up more space for itself. Several significant events have already been held in the building. The building held the first exhibition where St. Petersburg residents were able to not only see the internationally renowned collection of ancient art from Herculaneum but also evaluate the new museum area in the Eastern Wing of the General Staff building. We would like to observe that the annual Prix d'Excellence developers' competition is one of the most prestigious international real-estate competitions, which has been held since 1992. The main aim is to highlight the very best developments which characterise new trends in the real-estate market. |
