The laconic decor of this white porcelain cup shows one of most noteworthy and controversial art works produced in the 20th century. The black square contrasting with the white porcelain background perfectly illustrates the main principles of Suprematism, a movement of pure geometrical abstraction in art, originated by the Russian artist Kasimir Malevich whose name is to be seen on the other side of the cup.
