Boxes like this one with splendid inlaid Siberian malachite were ordered by the Russian Imperial Family in the 19th century as gifts for aristocrats and personal rewards to officials for distinguished service to the Fatherland. They were made at the Kolyvan Polishing Factory. The present pill box has been created by modern masters on the basis of models kept in the Hermitage and will be a decorative addition to any collection of rarities.
