Scholars have found the symbol of a cross with the upper part in the shape of a loop in images and documents dating back to 5000 years BC. Among the Egyptians, it symbolized eternal life. The Assyrians considered it to be the key to rebirth. In Christian symbolism the cross acquired a mystical and sacral meaning; therefore every believer had his own personal cross worn on the body which was decorated with an image of a saint or with words from the Bible. On the upper part of this simple enamel cross one can read the words "Lord of Light" - one of the spiritual titles of Christ. Two-sided cross. Silver, gilding; casting, chasing, engraving, enamel.
