Pharaoh's Tear Brooch
Pharaoh's Tear Brooch
Zoom
Colour:

After their decipherment hieroglyphs were written in Latin letters. The letter r symbolized an image of eye and personified the name of the sun god Re. In ancient Egypt the pharaoh was believed to be his incarnation. Brooches or pendants of this shape were considered amulets. The stylized ornament in the form of an eye with a tear in its corner reminds one of the Egyptian treasures in the Hermitage collection.
