This publication accompanies the exhibition 'A pocketful of dreams'. Art Deco Fash/on in the Collections of the State Hermitage Museum and Nazim Mustafayev, which deals with one of the most compelling and consequential forms of the Art Deco style—the fashion of the 1920s to early 1930s. An article written by Nina Tarasova puts a spotlight on Art Deco as an artistic style, exploring the history of Europe's best known fashion houses as well as Soviet fashion in that period, which received acclaim at the International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts in Paris in 1925. Another article, authored by the collector and researcher Nazim Mustafayev, offers an overview of his prime collection of beaded dresses, footwear and accessories from the 1920s – 1930s. Intended for a broad readership, the book is lavishly illustrated with photographs of the exhibits from the State Hermitage Museum, the National Library of Russia and Nazim Mustafayev's collection.
