This statue depicts the king sitting on a cuboid seat with his hands resting on his knees. He is wearing the ritual royal shendit kilt or loincloth and the nemes headcloth with an uraeus sacred asp rearing above the forehead. Small indentations have been drilled at the temples, evidently to attach a metal headband that is now lost. On the front surface of the seat there are two identical columns containing a hieroglyphic inscription that runs over onto the top of the pediment: “Younger God, Lord of Rituals Nimaatra. Son of Ra of his body, Amenemhat, [beloved] of Nekhbet, [Lady of the Sky (?)]” The face is rather broad, with prominent cheekbones. The almond-shaped eyes are small, wide apart and quite deep-set. The bridge of the nose is broad. The lips are precisely delineated with their corners slightly raised in a barely detectable smile. The chin is round with its central part conspicuously marked. The large ears protrude strongly. All these are characteristic features familiar to us from the sculpture of Amenemhat III, although not all of them were constantly present. The raised corners of the mouth, for example, are found only in statues from workshops in Lower Egypt. Andrey Bolshakov
