Shown against the background of an azure sky seen through an open window, a dark-eyed beauty is dancing to the rhythm of her castanets. She is wearing an elaborate costume, with a brown velvet arkhalig jacket over a long-sleeved blouse. Her waist is drawn in by a massive belt that has a red sash with a light blue printed pattern threaded through its round buckle. The sleeves of the blouse, the shoulders of the arkhalig and the bottoms of her broad ankle-length culottes are embroidered with pearls and emeralds forming a geometric pattern. The young woman is wearing a small round cap coquettishly off to one side in keeping with the fashion. On the crown of her head, she has an aigrette of black feathers attached with a string of pearls. The tilt of the head, gesture of the arms, fluttering ends of the broad sash and the bare feet planted wide apart all bring out the movement of this court dancer.
