Portrait of Sophia Shuvalova (married name Bobrinskaya)

Russia, Circa 1846

Sophia Andreyevna Shuvalova (1829–1912) was a maid-of-honour and member of the Order of St Catherine Small Cross. She was the daughter of Andrei Petrovich Shuvalov (1802–1873) and Thekla Ignatyevna Valentinovich, Zubova by her first marriage (1801–1873). She was married to Count Alexander Alexeyevich Bobrinsky (1823–1903). Sophia Andreyevna retained the warmest memories of the times she spent with Karl Briullov. “Countess Bobrinskaya, Shuvalova as was, thanks you for remembering and says that she is very fond of you,” Piotr Romanovich Bagration wrote to Briullov from St Petersburg.
