Comment:

In the centre of the painting is the City Duma building (1799–1804; architect Jiacomo Ferrari), to the left is the portico of the Perinnyie Ryadi (1802–1806; architect Luigi Rusca ), to the right is the Catholic Church of Saint Catherine (1762–1783; architects Jean-Baptiste Vallin de la Mothe, Antonio Rinaldi), where King Stanisław August was interred in 1798. Before 1819 a boulevard was laid out in the centre of the prospect. In the exhibition catalogue ‘Nevsky Prospect in Fine Arts’, 1978, G.N. Komelova and G.A.Printseva suggest that the painting dates to the 1810s, because there were trees depicted in the centre of Nevsky Prospect. Author's comments: Yuri Gudimenko
