This complex, multi-figure composition is divided into two parts, with Paradise to the left and Hell to the right. In the upper part is Christ as Judge; the weighing of each man's virtues against his sins and despatching sinners to Hell. A winding snake with 20 loops illustrates various sins. The righteous, headed by the Apostle Peter, are moving towards Paradise. At the bottom of the icon are small scenes showing various tortures which await the sinners.
