Comment:

The painting shows palaces and mansions of the nobility constructed along the left bank of the Neva. The panorama opens with the image of the Marble Palace built for Count G.G.Orlov in 1768–1785 after the design of the architect Antonio Rinaldi. To the left is the administration building designed by the architect P.E.Egorov in 1780–1788, connected to the palace by a metal fence. In 1797–1798 the Marble Palace was home to the residence of the Polish King Stanisław August who died in it in 1798.
