This hall is used to display works by 17th-century Dutch artists. Pieter Lastman (1583–1633), who was Rembrandt’s second teacher, is represented by several paintings. Visitors are introduced to the art of the “Utrecht Caravaggists” – followers of the Italian artist Michelangelo da Caravaggio (1571–1610) – through works by Gerard (Gerrit) van Honthorst (1590–1656), one of the foremost figures in the group, Matthias Stomer (Stom) (ca 1600 – after 1650), the creator of the “Sicilian nocturnes”, Hendrick Terbrugghen (1588–1629) and Dirck van Baburen (ca 1595–1624).
