An Exhibition in the Russian State Historical Archive in St Petersburg Marking the 250th Anniversary of the State Hermitage

On 5 February 2015 the historical documentary exhibition “From a Private Collection to the Imperial Museum” opened in the Russian State Historical Archive in St Petersburg. The exhibition presented unique documents from the Chancellery of the Imperial Court, the Cabinet of His Imperial Majesty and the Collection of Plans and Technical Drawings of the Ministry of the Imperial Court, which are kept in the archive and tell about the history of the construction of the Winter Palace and the buildings of the Hermitage and the formation of the museum\s collections.
Hermitage Day in Vyborg

On 11 February 2015 a State Hermitage Day was held in Vyborg, continuing a series of events devoted to the museum’s 250th anniversary. It began with gifts to the Alvar Aalto Central City Library. Then in the hall of the municipal assemble of Vyborg Region Mikhail Piotrovsky gave a public lecture on the 250th anniversary of the State Hermitage. The main event of the day, though, was the formal opening of the exhibition ”The Still Life in Western European Art of the 16th–19th Centuries from the Collection of the State Hermitage”.
“The Hermitage in Publications” Exhibition»

On 13 February 2015 the exhibition “The Hermitage in Publications” opened in the Foyer of the Hermitage Theatre. It presented Hermitage publications and publications about the Hermitage that came out in the jubilee year of 2014. The lion’s share of the display was taken by books devoted to the museum’s 250th anniversary.
The Book The State Hermitage. The General Staff. The Creation of a Museum

On 27 December 2015 the presentation of the book The State Hermitage. The General Staff. The Creation of a Museum, published with a small print-run, was held. The book is a gift from the Medny Vsadnik [Bronze Horseman] publishing house for the museum’s jubilee. It is devoted to the Eastern Wing of the General Staff building, which was constructed to the design of the famous architect Carlo Rossi in 1819–29. The book has three sections: the first examines the history of the design and construction of the ensemble that was at that time the largest administrative building in Europe; the second tells of the statesmen of imperial Russia who worked in the building on Palace Square; the third describes the formation of the restoration concept and its implementation.
“We Draw and Paint in the Hermitage” Exhibition

On 21 March 2015 the exhibition “We Draw and Paint in the Hermitage” opened in the General Staff, presenting works from the archive of the Art Studio of the State Hermitage’s Schools Centre devoted to the museum’s 250th anniversary. It featured some 50 works by pupils of the studio produced over recent decades.
“The Hermitage in Photographs. Our Jubilee” Exhibition

On 27 March 2015 the Foyer of the Hermitage Theatre became the setting for the exhibition “The Hermitage in Photographs. Our Jubilee”. Traditionally such exhibitions open in December, during the Hermitage Days, but this time it began later in order to include pictures of the main events of the 250th-anniversary celebrations.
